An Icelandic Hot Springs Engagement Session with Lizzie & Landon
The Land of Fire and Ice: The Perfect Destination for an Adventurous Photo Session
Let’s talk about what an Icelandic Hot Springs engagement session look like. Iceland is the perfect location for someone looking to have an adventurous and unforgettable photo session experience. For Lizzie and Landon, it was a no-brainer. Iceland provides such amazing and diverse landscapes and backdrops fit for any style of session you may want. In addition to Hot Springs, they also have volcanos, glaciers, lupine fields, black sand beaches, and so much more. These two decided that soaking up the naturally-heated water of a Hot Spring the day before their elopement was the perfect choice for them.
Why the Hot Springs are Perfect for Engagement Photos
Hot springs are naturally heated pools from the center of the Earth, and Iceland has no shortage of them. Lizzie and Landons chemistry really came alive in the Hot Springs, and some would say it got a bit heated… (pun intended).
A truly Adventurous Icelandic Hot Springs Engagement Session
We started the session by hiking just less than a mile to the Hot Springs during sunrise. Because we went during the summer months, in June, the weather was on the mild side. Although still cold, it wasn’t anything we couldn’t handle without pants and a weather-proof jacket. On the walk there, we got to appreciate the mountainside hills and the flowing stream that led the way to the springs.
Once we got to the springs, Lizzie and Landon dressed down to their swimsuits and tool full advantage of the empty spring. With the cold air above the surface and the warmth beneath, it created such a unique experience that really came across in their photos. The entire setting was giving a scene out of a romance movie.
Tips for Planning an Iceland Engagement Session
Timing is everything: During the summer months, the sun doesn’t set. During the winter months, the sun is always set. So getting the ideal lighting for your photos heavily depends on the time of year you go.
Pack smart: Iceland is cold and windy all year round (even in the summer months). Because Iceland is also an island, weather changes drastically and it can rain at any moment. Pack layers and waterproof clothes and shoes.
Choose the right Hot Spring: Because there’s so many hot springs, your chance of finding a good one is pretty good. However, avoid the more touristy ones to get a more private and intimate experience.
Hire the Right Photographer: You’ll want the person who is capturing your love story to not only be down for an adventure and unpredictable weather, but also attentive. Communication and comfortability is essential for destination engagement sessions. You don’t want any hiccups or concerns along the way since there are so many moving parts.

If you’re considering a destination engagement session, Iceland is the perfect place for a mix of romance and adventure.
